Position: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Hours: Alternating Monday - Friday 06:00 - 14:00, 10:00 - 18:00
Job Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, integrity, and efficiency of mechanical systems across our chemical manufacturing plant. You will be responsible for the maintenance, improvement, and safe operation of pumps, valves, rotating equipment, piping systems, and pressure vessels. In addition, a working knowledge of electrical systems and instrumentation is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment across the site.
- Diagnose and resolve faults in mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, gearboxes, heat exchangers, and pipework.
- Liaise with other engineers to support site-wide projects and shutdowns, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
- Carry out inspections, risk assessments, and condition monitoring to ensure compliance with internal standards and UK regulations.
- Assist with modifications, upgrades, and installations of mechanical systems to support continuous improvement and plant optimisation.
- Provide technical support and cross-functional input on projects involving electrical equipment, instrumentation, or control systems.
- Work with contractors and external vendors to ensure quality and safety during maintenance and project work.
- Keep accurate maintenance records.
- Support asset reliability and integrity programmes, contributing to plant uptime and operational excellence.
Skills & Qualifications
- HNC/HND/Apprenticeship qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience working in a chemical, petrochemical, or process manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including rotating and static equipment.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to the chemical industry.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems (e.g., motors, drives, control panels) or instrumentation.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
